For as long as I can remember, government agencies have informed kids with cartoon animals wearing people clothes that neither sang nor danced. All they said were catchy slogans that got their point across. Thanks to Smokey Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog, I've been preventing forest fires and taking bites out of crime my whole life. Mascots of those sorts always seem to get the job done; I don't see why FEMA or the state of Pennsylvania needs to change the course. Smokey Bear was highly successful in reducing forest fires and has even become an icon for environmentalism. He did this through posters and commercials, not from singing or rapping. (On a side note, if he did rap, his name would have been MC Smoke Stacks.) I just can't recall any government issued songs that have taught me anything or that have stood the test of time. The only song of that sort I can remember is from the Fox Kids days. "B.Y.O.B.F. Be Your Own Best Friend" was the message they were trying to implement and the song ran after episodes of Power Rangers. The first time I saw it, my brother joked "Nick is his own best friend" and proceeded to laugh in my general direction. 'Being your own best friend' was now the most uncool thing you could be to me. Nobody is going to take the FEMA rap seriously, and as for G Hog, well, if a rapping order phentermine becomes the reason you got into medicine, I don't want you operating on me.
